Republicans tough on Crime, not!

Republicans love to pretend they know better than Democrats. They self-righteously decry crime and drugs, falsely blaming Democratic policies for bad outcomes. In the aftermath of the latest shooting in Sacramento, they’re at it again.

Look past the “tough on crime” talking points, however, and you’ll find an interesting fact: Democratic states like California often do far better than many staunchly Republican states on these issues.

Take crime, for example. The GOP presents crime as a simple problem to fix. Just flood the streets with police and impose draconian sentences for even low-level offenses. But there’s a major glitch in the narrative: Republican states tend to have higher rates of violent crime than Democratic states.

“In 2020, per capita murder rates were 40% higher in states won by Donald Trump than those won by Joe Biden,” according to “The Red State Murder Problem,” a report from Third Way, a Washington think tank. “Eight of the 10 states with the highest murder rates in 2020 voted for the Republican presidential nominee in every election this century.”

Shameen,

We need more people to read newspapers is my contention. These use two sources or they don't publish. Not perfect but a lot better than what passes for facts on social media. And think about the past when we shared an objective truth. Sure, there were disagreements, but there wasn't significant arguments about vaccines or election outcomes. I have more to say but can't type that long.

Agreed! What newspaper used to represent pre the digital age was a single source of info. Without us realizing it at the time - this is one key element that allowed us to stay unified and build an America for all of us. The digital age has created infinite sources of information with facts to support flat earth to no pandemic. That combined with our cultural prioritization of being right + independence vs learning + teamwork has created quite an unsustainable society.. yes way more to say than this space allows!

the entire political system/all parties needs to evolve .. in today's digital world we can support any belief we want with facts .. makes it super difficult to work together and move things forward collectively

Russell…. I know you can do better than this in attempting to make a compelling political point…?

Your emotions are clouding your reasoning skills my friend. There is a lot more data/statistics out there -actual numbers not misleading percentages. You will get a much more accurate picture of where the most crime is occurring, demographics and local governments involved by digging a little deeper.

I miss our verbal jousts!

Love your spirit my friend!!
